Action in Africa’s mission is to educate, inspire, and empower the people in Nakuwadde, Uganda through a combination of educational offerings and community development programs. Action in Africa has been working with students and community members for over a decade, providing secondary school and university scholarships for students as well as educational and community outreach programs at their community center in the heart of the village. These programs include art, debate, spelling bees, theater, and music & dance, and they are designed to supplement the more rigid education students receive in the classroom with a curriculum that promotes creativity and critical thought. Action in Africa hopes to improve the lives of the young and old alike, offering HIV testing, English classes, and a women to women group for women looking to connect and support one another. Action in Africa employs a “no handouts” model, providing the friendship, education, and financial support that their students and community members need to turn their hard work into life-changing outcomes.
